Cidade do Cabo / Cape Town

Quem acha que férias em África é só sol e calor está muito enganado. Não só não temos apanhado muito calor como ainda levámos com a primeira tempestade do inverno Sul Africano na Cidade do Cabo, com direito a granizo e ruas completamente brancas da camada de gelo. Queríamos vir conhecer o Cabo da Boa Esperança e ficámos a conhecer também o Adamastor enfurecido!... Ainda assim fomos até ao Cabo onde, mesmo à chuva, pudemos desfrutar da vista para os dois oceanos que aqui se juntam - o Atlântico para um lado e o Índico para o outro.

Ao contrário de Joanesburgo, a Cidade do Cabo é uma cidade cheia de charme, energia e "boa onda", e uma semana não é suficiente para ver tudo o que há para ver e viver tudo o que há para viver.
Tivemos sorte no primeiro dia - conseguimos apanhar o teleférico para o cimo da Table Mountain, uma das Sete Maravilhas da Natureza, de onde a vista é indescritível. Lá em cima sentimo-nos mesmo no topo do mundo! Com esta visita apercebemo-nos que também já estivemos numa outra das Sete Maravilhas - o Undergroung River em Puerto Princesa nas Filipinas. Quando lá fomos há 3 anos atrás ainda não tinha este título, mas pelos vistos foi promovido, e ainda bem.
Do cimo da Table Mountain pode também ver-se a Robben Island, a ilha onde Nelson Mandela esteve preso durante anos, e que infelizmente não conseguimos visitar devido ao mau tempo.

É curioso as coisas que podem atravessar o nosso caminho nesta zona do país... A caminho da Boulder's Beach em Simon's Town, onde fomos para ver os pinguins, cruzámo-nos com babuínos. Mas os "perigos" são muitos, como se pode verificar nas fotografias...

Enfim, divertimo-nos muito na Cidade do Cabo e ficámos com vontade de voltar. Há um pouco de tudo por aqui: exposições, bons restaurantes, lojas cheias de estilo, mercados, museus, bares, discotecas e pessoas simpáticas. :)








For those who think a vacation in Africa is just sunshine and heat we can say that's a wrong idea. Not only have we not been getting warm weather but we also caught the first storm of the South African winter in Cape Town, including hail and white streets completely covered in ice. We only wanted to come to the Cape of Good Hope and we ended up getting to know the enraged Adamastor!... We still went to the Cape though, where, even under the rain, we enjoyed the view to the two oceans that come together in this place - the Atlantic to one side and the Indian to the other.

As opposed to Johannesburg, Cape Town is a very charming, energetic and "cool" city, and one week is not enough to see everything there is to see and live everything there is to live.
We were lucky on the first day - we managed to catch the cable car to the top of Table Mountain, one of the Seven Wonders of Nature, from where the view is indescribable. Up there we really felt on the top of the world! With this visit we realized we had also been in another one of the Seven Wonders - the Underground River in Puerto Princesa in the Phillippines. When we went 3 years ago it didn't have this title yet, but apparently it's been promoted, and it's a well deserved promotion.
From the top of Table Mountain Robben Island can also be seen, the island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for years, which we unfortunately didn't manage to visit due to the bad weather.

It's funny the things that can cross your path in this part of the country... On the way to Boulder's beach in Simon's Town, where we went to see the penguins, baboons came across us. But there are many other "dangers", as you can see in the photos below...

Well, we had lots of fun in Cape Town and really want to come back sometime. There's a bit of everything around here: exhibitions, good restaurants, stylish shops, markets, museums, bars, discos and nice people. :)
